What time do the gates open? What time is the first race?
The gate opening time and first race time vary between race days. The gate opening time will be at least 1 hour prior to the first race. The first race time will be released on the Thursday morning prior to the races (Saturday race meet). For confirmation of gate opening and first race time, please call us 02 4961 1573
Can I bring alcohol into the races?
The Newcastle Jockey Club is a fully licensed and you are not permitted to bring alcohol into the venue. There are ample facilities provided to purchase alcoholic beverages on the day. The NJC will thoroughly check all goods / bags / eskies prior to entering the course. The NJC practises responsible service of alcohol.
Can I bring food into the races?
As the Newcastle Jockey Club has it's own Catering Team, we do not allow food to be brought onto the course. Food can be pre organised or purchased at one of the many venues around the course. We do allow celebration cakes.
Can I bring a gift?
Newcastle Jockey Club allows you to bring gifts to the course, however they may be opened for content check and resealed prior to entering the course. No alcohol gifts are allowed.
Parking?
There is ample free car parking on the racecourse grounds.
What do I wear?
Entry to the general admission areas of the racecourse requires guests to be neatly dressed. Shoes and a shirt must be worn at all times. Please refer to the Terms & Conditions of entry for full details on dress regulations for entering the Newcastle Jockey Club.

Can I reserve outdoor tables and chairs?
The outdoor tables and chairs are freely available to all general admission guests on a first-come, first-served basis.
Can I have my bucks party at the Newcastle Jockey Club?
No, Newcastle Jockey Club is a licensed venue and a condition of this license prohibits entry for the purposes of "bucks" party/functions. Patrons entering the course for the purpose of group functions will be required ro declare the purpose of the function by completing a Function Disclaimer Form.
Can I bring my children to the races? Are there any restrictions?
Newcastle Jockey Club is a licensed venue. No minors are allowed on the premises unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. A wristband system is in place, whereby all guardians to wear a yellow G wristband and their minors a yellow M wristband - these will be issued at front gate. The parent or guardian must accompany all children under the age of 18 entering the venue at all times.
Children 16 years receive complimentary admission.

There are no restricted areas within the racecourse, however children under the age of 18 are not allowed to approach any beverage outlets or saddling enclosure.
Smoking
As the NJC is a public venue and is subject to venue smoking laws, smoking will only be permitted on lawn areas. Fines will be issued by Health Officials to those caught smoking in non smoking areas.
Where is lost property?
Lost property is kept at the main raceday office before being transfered to the rececption area for collection. Lost property items are stored for a period of 3 months and will then be donated to charity. All enquiries regarding lost property should be directed to

Is there public transport available after the races?
There is a taxi rank on Darling Street, outside the main entry. The NJC also organises free buses to transport patrons to Beaumont Street, Hamilton Train Station and Civic Train Station in Newcastle.
